The 1854 plat sits on the river terrace near 750 feet, down where the wind loses some of its edge, and the houses there fail at the eave and the flashing: ice at shallow soffits, a valley tarred over twice, step flashing that was never let in properly. The south side of town runs near 915 feet on open slope, and roofs up there lose ridge caps and lift shingles the older blocks never lose. Population roughly doubled in the ten years after the 1995 Bloomington Ferry Bridge opened, which is why so much of Shakopee is one build era.
