Ramsey County, Minnesota
Expert Roofing Company in Ramsey County, MN
The housing in Ramsey County runs from streetcar era story and a half homes in Saint Paul to postwar ramblers and split entries a few miles north. Two roofs of the same size can need different venting, flashing and underlayment here, so we spec each one off the house in front of us rather than off the county.

A county that changes spec every few miles
Saint Paul and the inner ring suburbs hold some of the oldest intact housing in the metro, and much of it still carries original detail worth keeping: cut up valleys, shed dormers, short eave returns, wood soffit that was never built for modern intake venting. Push north and the same county gives you long low rambler planes, deep overhangs and 1970s multi level rooflines with valleys landing over bump outs. Those are not the same job. The older roofs fail at flashing and at the eave. The newer ones fail where planes meet and where a long sun beaten run has given up. Most of our work here is in Saint Paul and Maplewood, though we cover the whole county, and we will say when a repair is the honest answer instead of a replacement.

What roofing in Ramsey County actually involves
Older roofs fail at the edges
On Saint Paul and inner ring houses the leak starts at step flashing, a valley that has been tarred twice or a chimney that was never counterflashed into the mortar. We open those details instead of shingling over them.
Suburban planes fail in the field
Ramblers and split entries carry long low planes with little to break them up. Granule loss, nail pops and a bald west run show up there before any flashing does, so the inspection starts somewhere else entirely.
Whole streets reach roof age together
Blocks here went up in the same two or three years, and hail treats them the same way. If neighbors are all reroofing, get your own roof looked at while the claim window on that storm is still open.
Where we serve
Cities we cover in Ramsey County
Saint Paul and its inner-ring suburbs: dense, mature housing stock with steep roofs and a lot of original detailing worth protecting.

Maplewood, MNMaplewood incorporated in 1957 after residents voted against annexation by Saint Paul, and it now wraps the north and east sides of that city.
Roseville, MNRoseville incorporated as a village in 1948, filled in with ramblers through the 1950s and 1960s, and is now the northeast metro's retail hub.
Shoreview, MNShoreview incorporated in 1957 and tripled its housing after 1970, spreading around seven lakes including Turtle, Snail, Owasso and Island.
Arden Hills, MNArden Hills incorporated in 1951 and is essentially built out, with about 97 percent of its land developed apart from Rice Creek Commons.

Orange Exteriors did an excellent job with my new roofing install. Very professional, on time and hard working crew. Completed the job in one day.
Dick JohnsonRoof installation The crew arrived early and spread tarps all around the house to capture every bit of debris. By 3:00 PM, my entire roof was completely finished.

Ramsey County questions
What homeowners here ask us most. If yours is not covered, call and ask.
Is a roofing permit different in Saint Paul than in the suburbs?
It can be. Permits come from the city rather than the county, so Saint Paul, Maplewood, Roseville, Shoreview and Arden Hills each run their own process, fees and inspection schedule, and some verify contractor licensing before they issue. We file with the city the house actually sits in and book the inspection with it.
What is usually under an older Ramsey County roof?
On pre war houses, often cedar shingle with asphalt laid straight over it, on board decking with gaps between the boards. On postwar and later homes it is usually plywood or waferboard under one layer. Nobody knows for certain until the tear-off, so we show you the open deck and replace sheathing only where it is soft.
Our block sits right on the county line. Do you still come out?
Yes. Saint Paul and the first ring keep us busiest, and we run jobs in Maplewood, Roseville, Shoreview and Arden Hills, but a line on a map is not what decides it. We cover the surrounding metro from Eden Prairie, and the drive does not change how a roof gets specified.
