White TPO membrane roofing being welded on a commercial building in Minnesota

Eden Prairie, Minnesota

Reflective TPO Roofing in Eden Prairie, MN

TPO is the white membrane you see on most newer commercial roofs around Minnesota. Its reflectivity is the reason: a white roof sends most of the summer solar load straight back up instead of driving it into the building and onto the cooling plant.

The seams are the system

A single-ply roof is a field of large sheets, and every failure begins at a joint between them. TPO seams are hot-air welded, which fuses the sheets into one continuous membrane rather than gluing them together, and a correct weld is stronger than the sheet either side of it. We probe every seam once it has cooled, detail the perimeter and every curb and drain individually, and keep the fastening pattern to the wind uplift the building actually needs. Where a roof carries kitchen exhaust or chemical discharge, PVC roofing is the more suitable membrane and we will say so rather than fit the wrong one.

What the work includes

Every tpo roofing quote we write covers the following as standard, not as an upsell.

  • Tear-off or recover, decided after we open and inspect the deck
  • Insulation to the specified R-value with staggered board joints
  • Hot-air welded seams, probed for continuity once cooled
  • Perimeter, curb, drain and penetration flashing detailed individually
  • Fastening pattern set to the building's calculated wind uplift
  • Manufacturer system warranty on both material and workmanship

Why homeowners choose tpo roofing

  • Reflects the summer load away

A white membrane sends back a large share of solar energy that a dark roof absorbs, which shows up directly in cooling demand across a big roof area.

  • Welded, not glued

Hot-air welding fuses the sheets chemically. The finished seam is stronger than the membrane on either side, which is not true of adhered laps.

  • The best cost per covered square

For a large, simple low-slope roof with no unusual chemical exposure, TPO consistently gives the most watertight area per unit of spend.

TPO Roofing questions

What homeowners ask us most about this work. If yours is not here, call and ask.

How long does a TPO roof last?

Twenty years or more for a correctly welded membrane at a decent thickness. Membrane thickness and seam quality drive that number far more than the brand on the roll.

Can TPO go over the existing roof?

Sometimes, if the deck is sound and the existing assembly is dry. We take core samples first, because recovering over wet insulation traps the moisture permanently and guarantees a shorter life.

Is TPO or EPDM the better choice?

TPO reflects heat and welds into a continuous sheet, so it suits large roofs with high cooling load. EPDM is more forgiving to repair and handles a complicated roof with many penetrations well. The building decides.
