New standing seam metal roof installed on a Minnesota home for lasting weather protection

Eden Prairie, Minnesota

Engineered Metal Roofing in Eden Prairie, MN

A standing seam roof hides its fasteners under the seam, which is exactly why it outlives exposed-fastener panels across Hennepin County. Snow slides off it rather than sitting and refreezing at the eave, and the finish holds its color long after an asphalt roof has faded.

Panels move, so the details have to let them

Steel expands and contracts through a forty degree swing, and a roof that pins the panels down will oil-can or tear out its own clips. We use concealed clips that let each panel travel, set the seam height to the pitch, and detail the valleys and headwalls so meltwater has somewhere to go. Where a home has both a steep face and a low-slope porch, we will often specify metal above and a membrane below rather than force one system to do both. The same thinking applies to our luxury roofing work, where the profile is chosen for the architecture first and the spec is built around it.

What the work includes

Every metal roofing quote we write covers the following as standard, not as an upsell.

  • Concealed clip attachment that lets panels expand and contract
  • High temperature underlayment rated to sit under metal
  • Custom-bent valley, headwall and rake flashing formed on site
  • Snow retention over entries, walkways and driveways where needed
  • Ridge closure that vents without letting snow drift in
  • Panel and trim color matched across every elevation

Why homeowners choose metal roofing

  • Snow leaves before it becomes an ice dam

A smooth metal face sheds a load that would sit on granules for weeks. That single behavior removes the conditions ice dams need to form at the eave.

  • Impact performance hail cannot bruise

Steel dents where asphalt bruises, and a dent is cosmetic while a bruise is a future leak. Many carriers price that difference into the premium.

  • Measured in decades, not warranty years

A properly detailed standing seam roof is the last one many owners buy for the house. The finish warranty is long, and the substrate outlives it.

Metal Roofing questions

What homeowners ask us most about this work. If yours is not here, call and ask.

Is a metal roof loud in the rain?

Not over a solid deck. The noise people remember comes from panels fastened to open purlins on a barn or shed. Over sheathing and underlayment, a metal roof reads about the same as asphalt from inside the house.

Will a metal roof make my house hotter in summer?

The opposite, in most cases. Factory finishes reflect a large share of solar energy rather than absorbing it, and the airspace under the panel carries away much of what is left.

Can metal go over my existing shingles?

Sometimes, over a single flat layer with furring. We still prefer a tear-off, because it lets us see the deck and correct the ventilation while the roof is open, and both of those decide how long the new roof lasts.
