Do I need a permit to re-side a house on Buffalo Lake?
Ask the city, and we will ask with you. Buffalo enforces a shoreland overlay on Buffalo Lake and Lake Pulaski, and decks, additions and other structures there require a permit. Replacing cladding on an existing wall is a different question than adding to the footprint, so we confirm before we order material.
Why is the lake facing wall always the one that fails?
Fetch. Wind picks up speed over open water, so rain hits that wall sideways instead of falling down it. Sideways water gets under laps, past unsealed corners and around window heads. The far side of the same house can look fine while the lake side is soft behind the panel.
Should I side an older Buffalo house or keep painting the wood?
