Dependable Asphalt Roofing in Shoreview, MN
A lot of the roofs coming due in Shoreview went on after the May 1998 tornado, which means whole blocks are aging out together. The 1970s and 1980s houses under them have cut up rooflines, several gable ends and valleys landing over garage and entry bump outs, so the work is in the transitions rather than the field.

Where a valley lands on the roof below
Three or four valleys on a multi level here is normal, and at least one of them empties onto a lower roof over the garage or the entry. That outlet is the detail. The receiving plane needs membrane wide enough for the water it is about to take and a diverter so it is not all landing on one shingle course. Gable ends are the other one. Wind lifts a rake before it lifts the field, so starter runs up the gables as well as along the eaves. Out on the lakefront blocks off Turtle, Snail, Owasso and Island, one elevation takes wind straight across open water, and that is where the nail pattern earns its keep. A few of those exposed planes end up in metal roofing instead, which sheds and holds better on a house that catches everything.

Details for a cut up roofline
Valleys that empty on a lower roof
A valley here usually dumps over a garage or an entry bump out. The plane below takes concentrated water, so it gets extra membrane and a diverter rather than one shingle course absorbing all of it.
Roofs that all aged together
The 1998 tornado put new shingles across a wide swath of this city at once. If yours dates from that repair it has had a full service life now, whether or not it is leaking yet.
Wind spec set by open water
Lakefront blocks on Turtle, Snail and Island have one elevation with nothing between it and the water. That side gets the full nail pattern and starter that is sealed down, not simply laid.
Work from the storm year checked
A great deal of this city was reshingled inside a short window after one storm. Before quoting the field we look at what that crew left at the valleys, the walls and the rakes, since that is usually the part failing now.
Storm damage written up properly
We photograph bruise density and lifted seals slope by slope so an adjuster has something to work from. Documented well, a legitimate claim moves. Documented poorly, it gets denied and reinspected.
Snow landing on the roof below
Multi level houses shed one plane onto another all winter. The lower plane takes abrasion and load, so it wants membrane under it and, where the drop is steep, something to break the slide.
How we handle storm and reroof work
Covered before the next front
We are open twenty four hours, seven days. After a night of straight line wind that matters most for getting an opening closed before the following band arrives.
We look at the plane below the valley
Before quoting we get onto the lower roof over the garage or the entry. That is the plane taking concentrated water off the valley above it, and it usually shows wear years before the rest of the house does.
Denials and reinspections handled
A claim that comes back denied is not always the end of it. We go back up with the report in hand, show what was missed on the slope and ask for the reinspection ourselves.
Not every bruise is a claim
Sometimes two slopes took hail and the rest of the roof is fine, and a slope repair is the right call. We will say so even when it is the smaller job for us.
The wind spec is written down
The estimate says which elevation gets the upgraded nailing and sealed starter and why. You should not have to take on faith that the water side was treated differently.

What Shoreview owners ask
What people in Shoreview ask us about this work. If yours is not covered, call and ask.
My roof was replaced after the 1998 tornado. Is it due?
Probably close. An architectural shingle from the late nineties has had a full run in this climate, and freeze and thaw is harder on a roof than age by itself. Look for granules in the gutter, curling at the rakes and seal strips that have let go. If two of those are showing, plan for it rather than wait for the leak.
Water pours off my upper roof onto the garage roof. Is that a problem?
It is the spot to watch. A valley up top can collect runoff from two planes and put all of it onto one course of shingle below. That plane wants membrane run wide under it and a diverter at the outlet so the water spreads before it lands. Left alone, the shingles right under the drop wear out long before anything else on the house.
Will insurance cover wind damage on a Shoreview roof?
It depends on your policy and on what the roof actually shows. Wind that lifts and creases shingles is usually covered. Granule loss from plain age is not. We inspect first and tell you which one you have, because a denied claim sitting on your record helps nobody at all.
