Can James Hardie siding go over the cedar that is already on my house?
No. Fiber cement needs a flat, sound substrate and a proper water barrier behind it, and cupped cedar lap is neither. On most Minneapolis bungalows we take everything back to the sheathing, repair what is soft, wrap it, then hang plank. It is more labor than a cover-up, and it is the only version that lasts.
How do you stage a siding tear-off on a narrow Minneapolis lot?
Usually off the alley. We look at where a container can sit, whether the garage apron will take it, and how far plank has to be carried to the far side of the house. On the tightest Longfellow and Northeast lots we sometimes load out daily rather than keep a dumpster there all week.
